Press Release

Mayor to tell City workers about advantages of union membership
20-9-2002   433

Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London, will call on city workers to join a trade union when he participates in the TUC South East Region (SERTUC) 'Organise the City' leafleting event on Monday, as part of the SERTUC campaign to raise awareness of employment rights and increase the profile of trade unions in the City of London.

The Mayor said:

'I want London to be the home of world-class businesses which offer world-class terms and conditions of employment. Our objective must be quality employment rights and a safe working environment for every worker in London. My message to any worker who is not in a trades union is, protect yourself - join a union today. To promote efficiency, safety and fairness at work I am urging every employer in the City to work closely with trade unions.'
