Statement from the Mayor on British Transport Police crime figures

Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, today welcomed the latest crime figures from the British Transport Police, which show that last year (2006/07) the capital saw a drop in crime on London Underground and Docklands Light Railway.
Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London, said:
‘Crime on London Underground and Docklands Light Railway is falling, which is good news for Londoners. There has been a serious downward pressure on making London’s transport system, one of the safest in the world. Robbery is down by 21 per cent and anti-social behaviour incidents have fallen by over 11 per cent.
‘This is testament to the £7.5 million commitment we have made to improve safety on public transport in this city. Since October last year we have seen the introduction of 440 extra officers working on and around the public transport system, which has helped us to bear down on crime and anti social behaviour and to provide visibility and reassurance to passengers.’
