There are a number of further sources of information about the impact of climate change on your home – some related to a particular impact, and some more generally useful resources.

You may be eligible for financial help in the form of grants, awards or subsidised products for some home adaptations. Your local council or energy efficiency advice centre may offer further advice on what is available locally, in addition to the organisations listed below.

Flooding

The National Flood Forum is a community network set up by people who have suffered from flooding.

The Environment Agency provides information on flooding including coastal and river flood risk maps.

Water scarcity

Your water company may have special offers for hippos, water butts and other water saving devices. Find your local water company details.

You may also qualify for special offers on 'A-rated' appliances - try a local energy efficiency advice centre or the Thames and Central Energy Efficiency Advice Centre.

Waterwise – an independent NGO focused on reducing water consumption in the UK. Their site provides advice on water efficiency and has a database of water-efficient appliances.

Many water companies have regular special offers on water efficient devices such as water butts. Find your local water company.

Overheating

Grants are available to help with the cost of insulation. The Energy Savings Trust provides information on saving energy and avoiding overheating at home.

The Warm Front Grant is a government-funded initiative providing a package of insulation and heating improvements up to the value of £2,700 (or £4,000 if oil central heating is recommended). If you own your own home or rent it from a private landlord, you may be eligible.

General

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) produces regular updated reports on our understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation the Earth’s climate

The UK Climate Impact Programme (UKCIP) coordinates research on how climate change will affect the UK at regional and national levels
