Case studies - House
The house studied is a three-bedroom, semi-detached house, typical of 1930s construction. It was chosen because this was the start of a prolific period of housebuilding in the south east. The construction of these homes was similar to those built after the Second World War and through to the 1950s. A family, with two adults and three children, live in the house.
Typically, houses of this era would have uninsulated cavity walls. Loft insulation would generally be thinner and less effective than modern loft insulation, and windows would be single glazed.
