Carol singing - guidelinesThe GLA welcomes a wide variety of groups to perform traditional Christmas carols in Trafalgar Square, in the evenings leading up to Christmas. Carol-singing groups must apply in advance to book a 'slot'; starting times are 5pm, 6pm, 7pm and 8pm. Groups may book more than one hour, subject to availability. The GLA provides free use of a small staging platform and PA system for groups. You may collect on behalf of your group or registered charity. Please note that the GLA has no means to guard or protect charity collection buckets, and groups must make appropriate arrangements for collection and storage. Please note that the staging platform is only suitable for 15 individuals. If you have more than 15 members who wish to sing, the remainder must stand around the platform. You may bring a keyboard or similar instrument to accompany your performance. Please note that only one instrument will be permitted. Amplified accompaniment may also be restricted occasionally in order that services and events at nearby St Martin-in-the-Fields Church are not disturbed. Groups are encouraged to use public transport to reach the Square wherever possible. Coaches may drop visitors at the west side of Trafalgar Square, but no parking will be available. The nearest available public parking is in Spring Gardens, on the south side of Trafalgar Square. Every effort will be made to accommodate disabled visitors – please contact the Squares Team (email trafalgar.square@london.gov.uk) to discuss requirements. |
Did you know? Since the square was pedestrianised in 2003, visitor numbers have increased by 200 per cent. |
