The Fourth Plinth

One and OtherFrom 6 July 2009 the Fourth Plinth in the north west of Trafalgar Square will be home to Antony Gormley's One & Other, an astonishing living monument. The plinth will be occupied by different people every hour, 24 hours a day, for 100 days.

He is asking the people of the UK to occupy the empty Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, a space normally reserved for statues of Kings and Generals, in an image of themselves, and a representation of the whole of humanity.

Marc Quinn's sculpture Alison Lapper Pregnant was the first new commission for the Fourth Plinth under the auspices of the Mayor of London’s Fourth Plinth Commissioning Group. It was in place in the square from September 2005 until October 2007.
