Contaminated land policies

The principle of sustainable development means that where practicable, brownfield sites including those affected by contamination should be recycled into new uses. Such recycling also provides an opportunity to deal with the threats posed by contamination to health and the environment.

The re-use of brownfield sites is a key objective running throughout this plan. Any land which is affected by contamination, whether or not identified under the regulations, may require measures to prevent contamination being activated or spread when building takes place.
