Wildlife gardening
- Mulching boosts insect numbers, adding to the food supply for birds, hedgehogs and other wildlife
- Build a log pile or insect hotel
- Make a pond
- Plant a native hedgerow of hawthorn, blackthorn, field maple or hazel to provide nesting sites and berries, nuts and hips that will provide an invaluable source of food for wildlife
- Put up birdfeeders
- Encourage and attract wildlife in to your garden with plants and by building log piles and insect hotels with recycled material
- Put up bird boxes
- A pile of fallen leaves left undisturbed in a damp, shady corner of the garden or pond plants is ideal for frogs, newts and toads
