Thames Estuary Airport
An open minded approach to transport
The Mayor has been clear that his mayoralty will take a creative and open minded approach to the challenges facing the capital; At this stage, the Mayor is not committed to a particular solution. His primary concern is that positive action is taken to address the aviation needs of London and the UK, and he believes that a new Thames Estuary airport offers a strong solution for both London and the UK.
Feasibility study recommendations
An intial feasability study recommended the creation of a Thames Estuary Steering Group including members from industry, business, and from across the political spectrum. The group’s role is to oversee further study and research on issues such as energy, flood management, transport, ecology and regeneration.
Exploring every possible option
There is a huge amount of work to be done before an estuary airport could even begin to go through the planning process. But the Mayor believes the complex and critical decisions on Britain’s aviation future require mature exploration of every possible option.
