Fourth Plinth Contemporary Art Commission

Description: The ‘Turner Prize’ of public art, running over three years. This is the UK’s highest profile contemporary art commissioning programme for a public space. Artists from around the world compete to be short-listed for the commission. Six proposals form the basis of a public exhibition and consultation on the next installation on Trafalgar Square. A high-level conference, education and outreach work with schools and art & design colleges complements the consultation stage. The winning artist is announced at a gala reception and the commissioned work installed on Trafalgar Square for c. 18 months. The present commission is Thomas Schutte’s ‘Model for a Hotel’.

New Year's Eve 2008

New Year's Eve fireworks 2007 Date: 31 December 2008
Description: New Year's Eve 2007 in London was so spectacular it achieved international press coverage around the world. 2008 will be even more special in recognition of the ever growing popularity of the entertainment and display with Londoners and International revellers alike. A unique commercial partnership opportunity is available which would integrate creative brand presence into the show, naming rights and inclusion on all large scale projections on famous London landmarks. Crowds of 700,000 attended the 2007 celebrations and the show included work by the internationally renowned pyrotechnician Christophe Berthonneau with an accompaniment of music by BBC Radio 1 DJs Rob da Bank and Gilles Peterson.

Trafalgar Square Fountains and Lighting Project

Description: Spring 2009 will see the start of restoration to one of London's most iconic landmarks in the heart of London - Trafalgar Square. Work will commence on restoring and conserving the two iconic square fountains and introducing modern sustainable lighting to the square, reducing the carbon footprint of the site by up to 90%. Following on from the award winning and innovative partnership between the GLA and Zurich Insurance on restoration of Nelson's Column (won Climate Change category at the IVCA Clarion Awards 2006), the GLA is seeking a new official commercial partner to create a more atmospheric and sustainable square. The partner will benefit from co-branded sponsored hoarding and site presence in one of the world's greatest outdoor spaces which is enjoyed by over 13 million visitors a year as well as launches and presence over the busy Christmas and New Year period.

Eid on the Square

Description: Trafalgar Square hosts Eid ul-Fitr - the end of Ramadan - with celebrations taking place that bring the Muslim community, families and friends together to celebrate this important date in the Muslim calendar. The event will include entertainment, an exhibition on Islam, a children's area, bazaar and exhibition space for sponsors and community groups. Eid on the Square presents a unique opportunity for a sponsor to communicate with the most diverse community in London; 1 million Londoners from all corners of the world.
