This map shows how we expect London’s employment to grow by 2031.
Projections prepared for the new London Plan suggest that the total number of jobs in London could increase from 4.68 million in 2007 to 5.45 million by 2031 – an additional 750,000 jobs over the period.
Employment has grown fastest in central and inner areas of London – unsurprisingly given that financial services and related business services tend to concentrate there, while sectors with lower levels of growth or declines tend to be more dispersed. There has been a comparatively lower level of employment growth in outer London, although this is where the majority of Londoners live. This suggests that this part of the capital might not be realising its full potential to contribute to London’s success.
More information about the employment growth estimates underlying the London Plan are in chapter 1.
