Skills and Employment

Introduction

A core workstream within the GLA Group’s Responsible Procurement programme is ‘Strategic Labour Need and Training (SLNT).’ SLNT is our approach to working with suppliers to ensure we have the right capability and competency to deliver our contracts, and are making any job and training opportunities that arise accessible to Londoners. SLNT supports the Mayor’s wider activity to increase apprenticeships, engage young people in employment and training and developing the rights skills for Londoners and London. Further information on the Mayor’s activity can be found here.

For the GLA Group our SLNT activity is aimed at creating an increase in our supplier’s London based activity around:

  • Apprenticeships
  • Recruitment from worklessness backgrounds
  • Internships and work placements for young people
  • Ex-offender recruitment and work experience
  • Educational engagement
  • Graduate recruitment

To work across this broad spectrum of activity we are working closely a number of strategic partners to ensure our suppliers receive an integrated system of support to meet their specific training and employment requirements. These partners include the London Development Agency, London Employer Accord and the National Apprenticeship Service.
