Case study 13 - The Buildings Energy Efficiency Programme (BEEP)
The C40 is a group of large cities across the world dedicated to combating climate change. London is a member of the C40 and the Mayor of London is the chair of the C40. The C40 is in partnership with the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI), part of the Clinton Foundation, together the C40 and CCI are developing a series of programmes to enable cities to combat climate change.
The buildings energy efficiency retrofit initiative is the first of these. The BEEP is London’s programme to retrofit its buildings. The BEEP programme seeks to accelerate the retrofit of buildings through an innovative commercial model designed to leverage market expertise in the operational, technological and financial aspects of the energy market. The objective of the BEEP programme is to appoint service providers to retrofit energy efficiency measures into a pilot set of GLA Group buildings. The LDA and TfL are leading the procurement process and contracts are expected to be awarded in early 2008.
