Olympic Park Legacy Corporation - statement by the Mayor following public consultation
12 OCTOBER 2011
The Mayor's London Plan identifies the Olympic Park and surrounding area as 'London’s single most important regeneration project for the next 25 years'. Between February and April 2011, the Mayor conducted a public consultation on his proposals to establish a Mayoral development corporation to drive regeneration and development in this area.
This statement describes the Mayor’s latest proposals and thinking with respect to what would be the new Olympic Park Legacy Corporation, following his consideration of responses to the consultation, and sets out the process required to give effect to those proposals. It should be read alongside the Mayor's original proposals for consultation, published in February 2011.
In January 2012, following late changes to what is now the Localism Act 2011, the Mayor published a further statement, which should be read alongside the October 2011 statement - both are available to download below.
On 6 February 2012, the Mayor formally designated a Mayoral development area covering the Olympic Park and surrounding area, using powers granted by the Localism Act 2011. On the same day he wrote to Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government, to notify him of this decision and to set out a number of other matters relating to the Mayoral development corporation that will be created for the area. The Localism Act obliges the Mayor to publicise the designation, and he is also publishing his letter to the Secretary of State which includes further information about his proposals. This letter may also be downloaded below.
