What we're doing

The Mayor is working hard to make sure that London is a safe place for children and young adults, where everyone can be healthy and happy, no matter where they live in the city.

We are doing six things:

  • Listening to what children and young people have to say about London and how it’s run
  • Stopping child poverty
  • Helping families
  • Making sure that more young people are in education, training or employment
  • Working with children in care
  • Tackling youth crime.

What opportunities will there be?

The Mayor has plans to get young people into training, like new apprenticeships and internships, to help them get jobs. Education, whether it’s in school or on the job is really important so it’s important that everyone has the chance to learn in the way that is right for them, whether that’s in the classroom or in an office or a workshop.

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are coming up and there will be lots of opportunities for Londoners aged 16 to 18 to volunteer at the Games. The Mayor wants to give young people more opportunities to volunteer because it is a good way of getting work experience and doing things in your community.  After the Games have finished some of the venues will be used to get young people involved in sports, making it easier for young people to stay fit so they won’t have health problems in the future.

Firstly I apologise I am not a young person posting.I wanted to comment that there are many positive initiatives here but there does not seem to be information about how businesses like mine can be part of these projects .I went from having few qualifications to being a business owner and studying to degree level. If I can do it I am sure that with a little help others could perhaps achieve more than me

The program is good. I salute the Mayor for his efforts to make London a better place for young Londoners. It would also be great if London could provide some sort of a Relationship Counselling program to these youngsters. A relationship counselor that would every now and then give young Londoners relationsip advice would be a great addition to the program.
