Lasting benefits from the London 2012 Olympics

We promise to deliver Londoners lasting benefits from the London 2012 Olympics.

In summer 2012, the eyes of the world will be on London as we host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The sporting events, and the cultural festivals that accompany them, will be an unforgettable experience for all.
But the impact doesn't stop in 2012. We promise to deliver Londoners lasting benefits from the London 2012 Games.
The legacy of the 2012 Games has already started with:

  • the regeneration of the Lower Lea Valley
  • consultation events around the post-Games physical transformation of the Olympic Park
  • business support initiatives
  • jobs and skills training
  • cultural and creative programmes
  • sports programmes.

Opening up sports opportunities for all Londoners

London 2012 will leave behind great sporting facilities, including swimming pools, cycling facilities and new tennis courts. These will be open for all to enjoy, and could help to foster the Olympic champions of the future.

PlaySport London
We are giving all Londoners the opportunity to get involved in sport through PlaySport London, the name given to all sports activity funded from the LDA’s £15.5 million Olympic legacy funding. With match funding, over £30 million will be invested in grass roots sport by 2012 including £7.5 million in community facilities.

The Cultural Olympiad

The Cultural Olympiad is a major programme of culture taking place in the run up to and during the whole of 2012. It ranges from national official projects through to local festivals and artistic activities taking place across London.
