England World Cup 2018

Why London?

London is one of the leading world cities. A place where over 300 languages are spoken, with world-class sports facilities including Wembley, Arsenal Emirates, Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium and the Olympic stadium and football fans from across the world.

The capital has already staged a number of iconic sporting events and will welcome even more in the years leading up to and after the London 2012 Games. That's why it is key to England's World Cup 2018 bid.

An economic boost

London has the biggest domestic broadcast market anywhere in the world, the planet's single largest sponsorship market and the prospect of selling more than three million tickets. This would deliver a huge and welcome boost to the British economy and the biggest dividend yet for FIFA to develop world football around the globe.

A legacy for Londoners

When London submitted its host  city bid, it set out legacy proposals to help improve the lives of disadvantaged youngsters. The Mayor, who is chair of London United, the group coordinating support for the bid, hopes the 15 clubs working together on their community programmes will create a positive lasting legacy for the capital.

An inspirational city

London inspires great sporting theatre and has an unrivalled number of world-famous landmarks and an abundance of public spaces. The capital also understands major events and would relish the opportunity to host part of the World Cup.

Supporting sport

Sport offers both a social benefit to Londoners and future generations, but can also break down boundaries as communities join together to cheer on and support the ‘beautiful game’. London also has excellent transport links and second to none in terms of media and global audience awareness.

How you can help

We want both Londoners and visitors to support  the capital’s bid to become a host city for the England 2018 World Cup bid.
