The Mayor’s Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) believes stop and search is a legitimate policing tactic that can help to reduce crime and in particular violent crime.

We know that when stop and search is used fairly and professionally it has the support of London’s communities. We are committed to building Londoners trust and confidence in the use of stop and search. Therefore the MOPAC will monitor the use of stop and search to ensure that it remains intelligence led.

The MOPAC monitors Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) stop and search performance. It challenges the MPS to ensure the use of stop and search is fair and achieves clear positive outcomes.

At a borough level, stop and search is monitored by Stop and Search Community Monitoring Groups. The MOPAC supports these groups to ensure that stop and search monitoring remains effective at a borough level.
