Role of the Mayor

The Mayor of London is co-chair of the Olympic Board which is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and monitoring the entire 2012 Games project.

In 2012, London will experience a summer like no other, starting with Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June, the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games from July to September, and a vast programme of spectacular events across our city.

As well as the biggest party that London has ever hosted, there’s also a serious side to the Games in London: new jobs for Londoners, contracts for local businesses small and large, training and volunteering opportunities, better sporting facilities, transforming east London, building affordable homes, investment in transport, attracting foreign investment – all a direct result of London hosting the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2012.

The Mayor is focused on ensuring that Londoners benefit from opportunities and investment that the Games bring – both now and in the future.
