Better facilities
As we encourage more and more Londoners to get active and take part in sport, we must ensure that there are enough facilities available. Swimming pools, playing fields, basketball courts, astroturfs – every sport needs somewhere it can be played.
The Mayor is investing £7m in sporting facilities to help meet the demands of Londoners wishing to take part in sport.
One focus of this investment is bringing back to life existing facilities that have become old and tired – or even that have closed down. A new clubhouse or refurbished changing rooms can in some cases make all the difference.
Another focus is on establishing small, free-to-use facilities in local communities to be used by local people – multi-use games areas on housing estates, for example.
So far, the Mayor has invested in 60 projects. Information on a number of these projects is available here.
We are not presently taking new applications for facilities grants. The latest round of successful applicants will be announced in June 2012.
