The London Accessible Housing Register

Delivering inclusive choice-based lettings services to disabled people in London by providing consistent information on the accessibility of homes.

What is the London Accessible Housing Register?

The London Accessible Housing (LAHR) is a framework to enable social housing landlords to collect, store and display information which will be relevant and important to disabled people looking for housing. It has been developed to be an integral component of choice based lettings schemes to provide information on the accessibility of homes.

Improving housing choice for disabled homeseekers

There is a shortage of accessible housing in the capital to meet the needs of disabled Londoners and many accessible and adapted homes are let to people who do not need them.

With an accurate knowledge of their accessible housing stock, landlords will be able to ensure that homes that are accessible or have been adapted can be made available to those who need them. The LAHR enables social landlords to collect access information in a way that is accurate and consistent and this information can then be used in choice based lettings schemes to provide disabled homeseekers with informed choices about their housing options.

Who benefits from the London Accessible Housing Register?

Inclusive choice based lettings schemes enable disabled homeseekers to make informed choices about their housing and more accurately identify properties that would meet their access needs. An accessible home environment promotes independence and may reduce the care and support needs of some people moving from less accessible accommodation.

Social housing landlords will also benefit by making best use of the accessible housing that they have, meeting disability equality duties and improving customer satisfaction.

A good practice guide has been produced for social landlords to give practical advice on implementation of the LAHR.

Training resources are available to help social housing landlords to implement the LAHR accurately and effectively.
