Littering, fly-tipping, graffiti, dog-fouling, abandoned vehicles – we are committed to fighting these and other environmental crimes.
Reducing littering and other environmental crimes
Sweet wrappers tossed on the floor rather than into a bin, dog dirt left on the street for someone to step into, chewing gum and cigarette butts underfoot, fridges dumped down alleys - it's not only unsightly, it's also all too often unsafe.
Enforcing and educating
To tackle the problem we are focusing on encouraging behavior change through education, followed up by enforcement where necessary. As much as possible should be done to raise awareness of the consequences and deter people from committing such crimes in the first place. At the same time, people who commit environmental crimes should not be allowed to get away with them.
Working with the boroughs
The boroughs play the key role in tackling environmental crime, not least because of their responsibilities to keep land clear of litter. We are working closely with them to this end.
We are currently working with London Councils and the London boroughs and will shortly be announcing a pan-London programme for the next two years.
