London is already the world's leading tourist destination and Europe's number one location for business. The Mayor and the LDA are determined to promote London even more effectively overseas, capitalising on its position as one of the world's 'big 3' in finance, alongside New York and Tokyo, and developing a brand that powerfully projects London as the vibrant modern city it is.
We are also committed to increasing the exports of a city that already represents 1% of the world's entire GDP, focusing particularly on large and fast-growing economies like India and China, and ensuring that London is well-represented at important trade events around the world.
A 3 billion+ opportunity
The Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase the reality of modern London. It’s estimated that half the world's population will tune into the 2012 Olympics via television. We will make sure that those 3 billion+ people will get a true picture of London as the 21st century capital of the world. And we will ensure, together with London's leisure and hospitality sector, that every visitor to the Games returns home with great stories to tell about the world's greatest city.
