We're helping central London become ever more competitive, productive and innovative.
Investing in central London
The economic heart of London
Central London is the capital's economic heart. Accounting for around one out of every three jobs in the London region, it has the highest levels of productivity in the country.
The heart of town is the most accessible part of town, due to the radial nature of the public transport system, used by 90% of London workers.
Costs are high in Central London, but the substantial increases in office space envisaged in the London Plan should help alleviate the demand pressures that keep rents high.
Supporting London's global role
The Mayor will support and enhance central London's global role. The London Plan aims to help ensure enough workspace, particularly office space, and looks to actively identify likely areas for development, including the city fringe.
Through the Transport Strategy, we plan to extend and maximise the use of the capital's radial public transport systems, increase the capacity of the mainline and underground networks, and make targeted improvements to strategic interchanges around the edge of the central London area. All with a view to relieving pressure, cutting congestion, and helping Londoners move into and out of the central area as efficiently, rapidly and comfortably as possible.
