London Assembly Member Murad Qureshi today slammed Mayor Boris Johnson for failing to meet his own paltry targets on insulating Londoner’s homes.
The criticism follows an announcement from the Mayor that only 40,000 properties have received insulation as part of the RE:NEW scheme. Originally 200,000 properties were to be retro-fitted, the Mayor then reduced this target to 55,000 by March 2012 and now it emerges that only 40,000 have been completed.

After receiving little reassurance from the Mayor, Labour London Assembly member, Murad Qureshi, has written to the City of London Planners in the hope that plans for a floating river walk along the Thames will take serious account of a number of navigational concerns.
The Mayor announced plans to build a floating 12 metre wide river walk along the north bank of the river Thames between Blackfriars and the Tower of London in time for the Olympics next year.

An environmental report, the European SootFreeCities Ranking, ranked London fourth from bottom of a table of seventeen major European. London was graded “F” for its record on reducing soot emissions and helping improve air quality.

Labour Assembly Member Murad Qureshi has criticized the Mayor’s latest home energy efficiency programme, which has been scaled back by nearly three quarters to target just 55,000 homes.
In 2009 the mayor promised his programme would treat 200,000 homes with easy energy efficiency measures like low energy lightbulbs, and offer advice and support for more complex things like roof insulation, but the new target is just 55,000 homes – or a mere 1.7% of London’s 3.3 million homes.
