Commenting on the enforced double resignation of Sir Simon Milton from City of Westminster Council and the Local Government Association, Assembly Member Len Duvall said: "Boris Johnson knew Sir Simon's appointment was in breach of the law and that if he hadn't taken action to resolve this fiasco someone else was about to. Of course we welcome his belated decision to do the right thing and step down but the Mayor could have resolved this and spared everyone's blushes weeks ago had he bothered to pay attention to the rules.
News from Len Duvall: Greener buses for Greenwich

Hybrid buses are cleaner, quieter and use less fuel than standard diesel buses, leading to a forty per cent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. A conventional diesel engine works together with an electric motor to power the bus, and energy that would normally be wasted when the vehicle brakes is recycled to power the motor.

The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) has finally agreed to sign a deal with Transport for London (TfL) over the next few weeks which will see new equipment and ticket barriers installed across the network.

Following Remploy’s announcement that they are to close their Woolwich and Brixton premises, who between them employ 86 disabled people, Len is calling on Ken Livingstone and the LDA to do all they can to support those affected.
The Labour Group of Assembly Members have supported a motion calling on the Mayor and LDA to “explore as a matter of urgency what steps can be taken to mitigate the effects if these displacements in line with the commitment made through the GLA core principles of actively supporting disability equality in London’s workforce”.

Londoner’s who are in receipt of Income Support will be able to apply for the Bus and Tram Discount Card, which will entitle them to half price Oyster Pre-Pay fares – just 50p for a single bus trip, compared with £1 pre-pay regular fare and £2 cash fare.
Len Duvall AM said ‘This is great news for Londoners on the lowest incomes, and will help more people access public transport, which is obviously a boost for the environment. We all know what a great city London is and what a huge variety of activities it has to offer.
London's Black Cabs Go Green!

This is the first ‘bio-fuel’ designed specifically for taxis and is proven to reduce carbon emissions and increase miles to the gallon.
Mayor Ken Livingstone joined Radio Taxis to launch the new green cabs at City Hall this week and expressed the hope that if the firms efforts prove successful, all cab companies in the capital would be encouraged to do likewise. He said ‘London already has the best taxied service in the world and I am working with the taxi trade to make it the cleanest.’
Lewisham and Greenwich first to get extra DLR carriages in 2009

Len Duvall AM, London Assembly Member for Greenwich and Lewisham said ‘The DLR is a vital transport link in my constituency, which as yet is only served by a limited number of underground stations. The new carriages will boost capacity on the service in which is great news, considering that the DLR carried 1 billion passengers last year’.
