Bexley and Bromley’s GLA member, James Cleverly today won assurances from the Mayor of London that plans for the new Silvertown link tunnel will become a reality.

 

Quizzing the Mayor at his first Question Time since the election, Mr Cleverly won assurances from the Mayor that plans for the tunnel are “proceeding at full-tilt” because it would not only provide jobs in the short term through building but in the long term through greater connectivity north and south of the river. In short Boris said it was “the right thing to do”.

London Assembly Conservative Group today left the chamber after questioning the Metropolitan Police Commissioner when they were one again denied proportionate representation of the Assembly’s committees.

 

Commenting, Group Leader James Cleverly AM said:

 

“Once again other parties on the Assembly have chosen to put petty party politics before properly representing the democratic view of Londoners by denying us fair and equitable chairmanship and deputy chairmanship on Assembly committees.”

Cleverly backs police to do what is necessary to keep public order

Bexley and Bromley’s London Assembly member, James Cleverly, was yesterday elected leader of the Assembly’s Conservative Group.

 

Speaking after his election, Mr Cleverly, who was elected to the Assembly in 2008 said:

London Assembly member, James Cleverly, today won the Mayor’s backing to increase public awareness on HIV-AIDS prevention at Mayor’s Question Time today.

Cleverly backs “common sense” EU decision to lift £300m fine threat

James Cleverly AM has welcomed today’s “common sense” decision by the European Union to grant London more time to meet air quality targets, avoiding a possible £300 million fine.

 

The EU had previously considered imposing the multi-million pound fine because of longstanding problems with air quality in London, but because Mayor Boris Johnson has successfully demonstrated that the capital has a realistic plan to cut pollution across the city the immediate threat has been lifted.

Cleverly calls for cut price rail fare for Olympic ticket holders

London Assembly member, James Cleverly today won Boris Johnson’s agreement to lobby train operating companies to offer discounted rail fares to Olympic Games ticket holders.

 

Quizzing the Mayor at Question Time today, Mr Cleverly said he feared outer London becoming choked with parked cars during the Games as drivers leave their vehicles in Zone 6 and take advantage of the free travel pass that comes with an Olympic ticket.

Cleverly supports Mayor on driverless trains

James Cleverly, Assembly Member for Bexley and Bromley, has backed Boris Johnson's comments made at the Local Government Dinner at Mansion House last night that London Underground does not need highly paid drivers once new technology is installed across the network.

Under the upgrade programme, large parts of the Tube network, will no longer need manual drivers, as the trains will be controlled by a remote computer, with those riding in the cab acting as attendants.
