The London Assembly is part of the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Assembly Members are elected every four years, at the same time as the Mayor. There are 25 London Assembly Members - twelve Labour, nine GLA Conservative, two Liberal Democrat and two Green Party Members. The role of the Assembly is to act as a check and balance on the activities of the Mayor. The Assembly questions the Mayor, in public, ten times a year at Mayor’s Question Time meetings, as part of its role of holding him to account[2]. Tomorrow the Assembly will question Mayor of London, Boris Johnson on subjects including:
The Chancellor’s Autumn Statement and how it will affect transport in London.
Whether the Met should adopt a national register for stalkers.
New figures on the early death toll from air pollution.
Next steps for the Garden Bridge.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 17 December from 10:00am in The Chamber, at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1). Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
