The Mayor of London has approved plans to redevelop the Warner Stand at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
The new stand will provide 2,922 seats with improved views of the ground and new catering facilities.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: “There is no better way to spend a warm summer’s afternoon than listening to the glorious sound of leather on willow at the home of cricket, Lord's. The new Warner Stand combines the very best of twenty-first century architecture with state-of-the-art facilities and will improve the overall visitor experience by improving sight-lines and accessibility, with a new restaurant overlooking the field of play. The stand will enhance the unique character of Lord’s and ensure that it remains the most idyllic cricket venue in the world for many years to come.”
Derek Brewer, Marylebone Cricket Club Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to receive the Mayor of London’s support for the new Warner Stand at Lord’s. Being granted planning permission last month was a significant step forward in the development of the Ground, and it’s fantastic that the Mayor has approved this first major phase of the Club’s Masterplan.
“MCC wants Lord’s to be regarded as the finest cricket ground in the world, for the benefit of not just all who visit to watch and play the game, but for the local community in Westminster and beyond in London.”
