This meeting took place on 21 October 2014. Read the transcript for the first section here and the second section here.
In March 2013 Mayor Boris Johnson set out his ‘vision for cycling in London’ supported by a commitment from Transport for London (TfL) to spend £913 million on cycling and related infrastructure by 2021/22. [1]
So far that spending has been much slower than planned. In 2013/14, TfL spent £73 million of its £111 million budget. For this financial year TfL is forecasting it will spend £70 million of its £81 million budget. [2]
The Budget Monitoring Sub-Committee will tomorrow question the following guests about why expenditure has been slower than planned and any implications this may have for the delivery of the Mayor’s cycling commitments:
Andrew Gilligan, Cycling Commissioner
Patrick Doig, Surface Transport Director of Finance, TfL
Nigel Hardy, Head of Road Space Management Sponsorship, TfL
David Rowe, Head of Borough Projects and Programmes, TfL
Lilli Matson, Head of Strategy and Outcome Planning, Surface Transport, TfL
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 21 October from 3.30pm in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1 2AA). Media and members of the public are invited to attend. The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
