Labour London Assembly Member for City and East John Biggs has called for London Mayor Boris Johnson to ensure residents in his East London constituency are properly consulted over changes to City Airport flight paths.
John Biggs AM wrote to the Mayor of London calling on him to intervene to ensure “full and detailed consultation on the proposals, with specific measures to engage the councils and communities that live along the proposed flight paths.”
The letter outlined how air traffic at City Airport affects a very large population in East London in terms of take offs, landings and flight paths. Those communities do not appear to have been properly consulted on the proposed changes, which falls foul of the Civil Aviation Authority’s guidance on the Airspace Change Process, the letter states.
Labour London Assembly Member for City and East, John Biggs, said:
“London City Airport has been hugely positive for East London, but anxieties about its environmental impacts on local people are inevitably and naturally rising. Aviation noise is a major issue and meaningful consultation on changes to flight paths will improve confidence in the community’s relationship with the airport, which is a major employer and generates economic benefits in the area, but must also be a good neighbour.
“I hope that Boris Johnson will now join with me in calling for a full and detailed consultation on the proposals, so that communities and councils have the chance to make their voices heard before any major changes are made.”
