Transport for London (TfL) are currently consulting on removing the pelican crossing at the junction of King William Street by Arthur Street. The crossing has been selected as being a potentially suitable candidate for removal due to low levels of usage.
Local London Assembly member, John Biggs said: “The TfL survey shows that almost everyone does not actually use the pelican crossing to cross the road. However, the survey was conducted for one hour on just one day and so may not represent the true use of the crossing.”
“The crossing may also help to protect vulnerable road users, for whom the pelican crossing offers a level of assurance and safety that most pedestrians do not need.”
“I am therefore asking residents to contact me to let me know if they are happy for the crossing to be removed.”
You can comment on the plans via the TfL consultation website at https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/streets/traffic-signal-cityoflondon. All comments should be made before 9 February 2012, when the consultation ends.
