News from John Biggs (past staff): Biggs puts Boris on back foot over Fire Service Cuts

Created on

In a heated debate during Mayor’s Question Time today Local Assembly Member John Biggs challenged the Mayor on his refusal to reverse the cuts to Fire Services in East London.

In reminding the Mayor that East London is seeing the largest population growth in London, John made the point that the 3 stations (Bow, Silvertown and Clerkenwell) down for closure in East London are within walking distance of his home, an area of more than a million residents.

John Biggs AM said: “I asked the Mayor if he believed that London has too many fire-engines at present. The Mayor, unsurprisingly, avoided answering the question despite these closures being of considerable concern to local residents. It’s what we expect from Boris who prefers to make jokes instead of addressing the serious concerns of Londoners.”
