Darren Johnson AM will meet with cyclists and Forest Hill residents next Wednesday morning to learn about the dangers they face when using local roads.
In particular, Darren will investigate safety issues at the Forest Hill junction of London Road, Devonshire Road and Dartmouth Road. The Mayor of London previously ordered a review of 500 junctions with safety concerns but has repeatedly scaled back the scope of the review and now expects to overhaul just nine junctions before the end of this Mayoral term (2).
In July 2014, through a formal written question Darren also discovered that the Mayor of London had decided to cancel the planned Cycle Superhighway 6 which would have provided a cycle corridor from Penge to the City of London through this Forest Hill junction (3).
Darren will be looking into whether Transport for London has made adequate alternative plans with Lewisham and Southwark councils to provide south east London cyclists with direct routes into town.
Darren has recently criticised the Mayor for abandoning his target of getting 5% of all trips to be completed by bike in the capital by 2026.
When: Wednesday 24th June 2015
Where: Meeting at 10am outside the main entrance to Forest Hill station on the west / north-bound side
