Beijing Athletes' ParadeThursday 16 October 2008
At 11am on 16 October, London welcomes our Olympic and Paralympic Heroes with a parade through the city to celebrate the country’s biggest medal haul in a century. Our Olympic athletes won 47 medals including 19 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronzes to come fourth in the table. While our Paralympians did even better, second only to China, with 102 medals – 42 gold, 29 silver and 31 bronzes. That’s an amazing 149 medals in total, so let’s give them the reception they deserve! Athletes taking part include gold medallists Christine Ohuruogu, swimmer Becky Adlington, canoeist Tim Brabants and two time Paralympics gold medallist David Weir. A host of Paralympic and Olympic rowing stars will join sailor Ben Ainslie and Britain's most successful cycling team, including Victoria Pendleton, Rebecca Romero, Sarah & barney storey, Simon Richardson and triple gold medallist Chris Hoy. The Olympic and Paralympic Heroes parade is proudly supported by Visa, BT, Lloyds TSB and BP. |
