At 11am on 16 October 2008, London welcomed our Olympic and Paralympic Heroes with a parade through the city to celebrate the country’s biggest medal haul in a century.

Our Olympic athletes won 47 medals including 19 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronzes to come fourth in the table. While our Paralympians did even better, second only to China, with 102 medals – 42 gold, 29 silver and 31 bronzes. That’s an amazing 149 medals in total, so we gave them the reception they deserved!

Athletes that took part included gold medallists Christine Ohuruogu, swimmer Becky Adlington, canoeist Tim Brabants and two time Paralympics gold medallist David Weir. A host of Paralympic and Olympic rowing stars joined sailor Ben Ainslie and Britain's most successful cycling team, including Victoria Pendleton, Rebecca Romero, Sarah & barney storey, Simon Richardson and triple gold medallist Chris Hoy.

The Olympic and Paralympic Heroes parade was proudly supported by Visa, BT, Lloyds TSB and BP.
