Specially commissioned artworks to celebrate the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week on London underground9 September 2009This Friday 11th September, a unique collection of artwork will be unveiled throughout the capital on the London Underground. ELLE has worked with Transport for London as part of their special London Issue, on sale now, commissioning 25 of the people who have helped shape British fashion – from Paul Smith and Christopher Bailey to Henry Holland and Naomi Campbell – to create one-off posters for display on central London stations in September. All 25 images are depicted in a free pull-out poster within the October issue of ELLE and two of the poster designs by Rob Ryan and Antonio Berardi have been chosen for limited edition designer T shirts with a percentage of proceeds going to White Ribbon Alliance, available to buy from Start Boutique (42-44 Rivington Street, London EC2A 3BN) and at London Fashion Weekend. London Mayor Boris Johnson, who is featured on special editions of this month's Elle, says: 'London produces some of the best and most cutting edge designers in the world, which is why we've teamed up with ELLE to celebrate 25 years of London Fashion Week on the Underground. As these terrific images by some of our most revered designers and style icons show, London is the place to be for fashion. Five of the posters have been made into covers and these collector’s issues will be available for purchase from WHsmith and Selfridges. The five covers join the main cover star Lily Allen, who is captured by Rankin in a stunning photo shoot, as well as The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who ELLE have teamed up with to feature on the cover of a further special edition, only available at London Fashion Week.
John Ball, Director of Strategy and Service Development for London Underground said: “We’re very proud of our tradition of putting great design at the heart of our organisation. This includes the iconic and world-class design of our stations, signage, maps, typeface and posters. We have always been committed to new ideas and leading design. “London Underground is delighted to support the 25th Anniversary of London Fashion Week, and the inspirational and innovative work to be showcased by emerging and established designers from around the world. “We’re sure our customers will greatly enjoy seeing the 25 special celebratory poster designs by some of those designers in our central London stations in the run-up to, and during, the event.” PAUL SMITH .
