The Economy Committee scrutinises the work of the Mayor and investigates matters of importance to Greater London relating to economic development, culture, skills, sport and tourism in London. It also leads on scrutiny of the Mayor’s Economic Development Strategy, the Mayor’s Culture Strategy and Adult Education.

The Committee’s terms of reference are agreed by the London Assembly at its Annual Meeting.

The Committee’s terms of reference have been amended. Following consultation with Economy Committee Group Lead members, on 12 July 2023 the GLA Oversight Committee agreed a temporary addition to the Economy Committee’s terms of reference for 2023/24 to encompass scrutiny of any actions or decisions of the Mayor in relation to childcare in the context of London’s economy.
