Report of the Executive Director of Secretariat

The Committee is recommended to note the report as background and put questions to representatives of the Metropolitan Police Service and Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime on the Territorial Policing Development Programme.

6.1  The Committee received the report from the Executive Director of Secretariat.

6.2  The following guests attended the meeting to answer the Committee’s questions about the update on the Territorial Policing Development Plan: 

·  Stephen Greenhalgh, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime;

·  Assistant Commissioner Simon Byrne, Metropolitan Police Service; and

·  Deputy Assistant Commissioner Steve Kavanagh, Metropolitan Police Service.

6.3  A transcript of the discussion is attached at Appendix 1.

6.4  During discussion, the Committee requested the following information –

·  that Assistant Commissioner Byrne provides further details on the 2000 officers being added to the Safer Neighbourhood teams; and details of redundancies that have taken place or are due to take place and how they were being managed by the MPS in conjunction with staff associations;

·  that the Public Access Review, undertaken by the Metropolitan Police Service, be provided to Members of the Committee. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Kavanagh provided assurances that the Review would be circulated to members of the committee in due course.

·  that the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime provide further information to Members of the Committee on the Territorial Policing Review and Estates Review, once available.

6.5  Resolved:

(a)  That the report and discussion be noted; and

(b)  That it be noted that Assistant Commissioner Byrne, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Kavanagh and the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime undertook to provide the Committee witth the information as recorded above.
