Information about Police and Crime Committee

The Police and Crime Committee examines the work of the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and reviews the police and crime plan for London. The Committee can also investigate anything which it considers to be of importance to policing and crime reduction in Greater London and make recommendations for improvements.

To conduct its work the Committee has the power to require the Mayor of London in his capacity as the occupant of MOPAC, the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, and staff from the MOPAC, to attend meetings and provide documents to it. The Committee may also hold confirmation hearings into the appointment of the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime.

The Committee regularly questions the Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime at City Hall; these meetings are open to the public.

You can find out more about the Committee's current work in theinvestigations section or view the reports it has published.
