Assembly looks into NHS finances across London

15 MARCH 2010

The London Assembly will tomorrow assess the current state of NHS finances and the progress made to date on reconfiguring health services across the capital.

The Assembly’s Health and Public Services Committee will question a range of guests about how many trusts are forecasting a deficit at the end of the current financial year and how NHS London and trusts plan to adjust to the tough financial climate.

The Committee will also look at the status of plans to change the way health services are delivered in the future, including the increased use of polyclinics to handle GP and community-based routine services; local hospitals providing the majority of inpatient care; and major acute hospitals offering specialist and complex care.

During the session, members will additionally look at how London handled the swine flu pandemic and plans being made for any future outbreaks.

The following guests will attend the meeting:

  • Ruth Carnall, Chief Executive, NHS London
  • Lindsey Davies, Interim Regional Director of Public Health
  • Paul Baumann, Director of Finance, NHS London
  • Dr Michelle Drage, Chief Executive, Londonwide Local Medical Committees

The Health and Public Services Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday, 16 March from 3.30pm in the Committee Room 4 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
