Assembly heralds 2012 Games ‘year to go’ milestone
27 JULY 2011
Exactly a year out from the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Jennette Arnold AM, Chair of the London Assembly, said:
“With just a year to go until London moves into the spotlight as host city of the 2012 Games, the excitement is building by the day.
“The Games are a fantastic opportunity to showcase our magnificent capital, with a range of new venues set against the historic backdrop of London’s iconic landmarks.
“Having carried out extensive work on the plans and preparations, the Assembly welcomes the tremendous progress that has been made to ensure both Londoners and visitors have a positive and memorable experience during the Games.
“Yes, there are some areas that need some attention over the coming months – particularly around transport, the preparedness of the emergency services and getting Londoners into Games-time jobs – but we have no doubt London will put on an amazing show for the world.”
