News from Tony Arbour: Tony Arbour backs Mayor’s funding boost for Twickenham, Hounslow and Surbiton town centres

28 MARCH 2011

London Assembly Member for Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow, Tony Arbour has welcomed Boris Johnson’s announcement of £50m for regeneration in outer London town centres.

The move will allow councils to bid for funding to aid the regeneration of town centres, like Twickenham, Hounslow and Surbiton.

The money can be used to aid the development of land, maximise transport infrastructure investment and improve town centres for the people who live and work there.

Commenting, Mr Arbour AM said:

“I’m delighted that Boris is continuing to invest in outer London town centres and making sure that all Londoners benefit from his Mayoralty.

“The regeneration of local centres is vital to maintaining and improving the quality of life of people who live and work in south west London.

“Outer London provides two fifths of all the jobs in the capital, so it’s very important that its growth is supported."

Notes to the editors:

The Outer London Fund is especially targeted at those outer boroughs that benefit less directly from the Olympics and Crossrail.

Local authorities in outer London will be able to bid for funding to the Outer London Commission, which is expected to formalise how the bidding process will work shortly.

The Outer London Commission is an independent body, which includes representatives from public and private sectors, set-up by the Mayor to advise him on how to best support outer London.
