News from Roger Evans: Roger Evans involves Boris on Cycle Super Highway link
18 MAY 2011
At Mayor’s Question Time yesterday Redbridge’s London Assembly member, Roger Evans, asked Boris to intervene in Newham Council’s plans to block the Cycle Super Highway (CS2), from Bow to Ilford.
Responding, Mr Johnson said that he has spoken to Newham’s Mayor, Sir Robin Wales, who has agreed to look again at the Council’s stance.
Commenting afterwards, Mr Evans said:
“I am very grateful for Boris’s intervention and speaking directly to Sir Robin. The cycle superhighways have been very successful in the areas of London where they have already been introduced with the number of cyclists along the first two routes rising by 70 percent.
“Newham Council has said it objects to the use of coloured road surfacing, despite the fact that Cycle Super Highway 3, from Tower Gateway to Barking along the A13, passes through Newham and uses the same colour road surface.
“Newham Council must not stop my constituents from sharing in London’s cycling success.”
