News from John Biggs: John Calls for Urgent Safety Measures at Dangerous Junction
25 OCTOBER 2011
Local London Assembly member, John Biggs, has today called for urgent safety measures to be implemented at the Bow Flyover following yesterday’s death of a cyclist.
John has raised the dangers of the Bow roundabout at two meetings with Transport for London officials and in a written question to the Mayor of London. On each occasion he has been told that there is no obvious solution which would not cause massive traffic delays.
Local London Assembly member, John Biggs said: "My immediate thoughts are with the friends and family of the cyclist who died yesterday.”
“I am very angry at this tragedy. In my view, the fact that the junction has not suffered previous serious accidents is more down to luck than judgement. There has tragically been a growing likelihood of an accident waiting to happen there for a long time.”
“If safety measures cause traffic delays then that is in my view a price well worth paying."
John has also been contacted by a number of worried local residents, particularly those living in the growing number of apartments at the western end of Stratford High Street, who need to cross the Bow Roundabout to reach local transport stops (Bow Bridge and Bow Road and Bromley-by-Bow stations are their nearest stops) while there are still no pedestrian crossing facilities on the roundabout.
