News from Jennette Arnold AM: Demands action on behalf of Islington constituents
25 MARCH 2009
Jennette Arnold, London Assembly Member for Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest, today presented a petition on behalf of her constituents to Boris Johnson at Mayors Question Time asking for a review of bus route 153.
The petition reads:
We, the undersigned, wish to register our serious concerns about the current levels of noise and pollution generated by the 153 bus as it travels along the heavily residential Hemingford Road. The noise problem is particularly serious from 11 p.m. until the service ends after midnight, and between 5.00 and 8.00 in the morning. We call on Transport for London to explore as a matter of urgency ways of mitigating this problem, in particular the possibility of either using smaller buses at these sensitive times or deploying on this route the new single-decker environmentally friendly (hybrid) buses as soon as possible.
Commenting after Mayor’s Question time, Ms Arnold said:
"The current noise levels coming from the buses used on this route are simply unacceptable. My constituents have suffered from sleepless nights too longand it is about time that TfL looked into alternative options to bring some peace and quiet to this residential area."
