Coleman slams Zil lanes planned for Camden during 2012 Olympics
29 JULY 2010
Brian Coleman, London Assembly Member for Camden, has attacked plans for Zil lanes in his constituency during the 2012 Olympic Games.
On the day that the Olympic Delivery Authority announced its plans for Olympic lanes along Euston Road, Southampton Row and Kingsway, Mr Coleman said:
"These Zil lanes are completely unworkable. The Olympic Delivery Authority’s plan to cordon off lanes along Euston Road and Southampton Row will cause traffic chaos for weeks during the summer of 2012.
“Motorists in London will be furious when they are stuck in huge traffic queues whilst the occasional limousine zooms past them in an empty lane.
“What is even more frustrating is that the exclusive Olympic lanes on Euston Road and Southampton Row are only being created because the international media is staying in swanky Bloomsbury hotels. If all these journalists and broadcasters stayed closer to Stratford, there would be no need for any Zil lanes in Camden.”
