Coleman calls for an end to all car clamping
18 AUGUST 2010
Barnet and Camden’s London Assembly member, Brian Coleman has welcomed the Government’s decision to ban car clamping on private land and now calls on them to extend the policy to the public land and highways.
Commenting, Mr Coleman said:
“I applaud the Government for banning the clamping of cars on private land, but I think they should now take a spoonful of their own medicine and forbid car clamping by public authorities, such as Transport for London.
“The same problems which affect private land affect public area too. So what’s good for the goose is good for the gander: if clamping can be banned on private land then it follows that this should be extended to the public highway too.
“Clamping solves none of the problems for which is it meted out and I believe it is an infringement of drivers’ civil liberties.”
