News from John Biggs: Boris and TfL break Bow roundabout promise

2 December 2011

Local London Assembly Member John Biggs today criticised Mayor of London Boris Johnson and TfL for failing to stand by an agreement to report back on an urgent safety review of Bow Roundabout following the death of two cyclists.

Boris Johnson and his transport officials agreed to report back on what immediate actions they intend to take at a meeting with John on 18th November, they categorically agreed to report back within a week. This follows John Biggs’ two-year campaign to increase safety at the roundabout.

Local London Assembly member, John Biggs said: “Boris needs to get an urgent grip on safety at Bow roundabout and live up to his commitment to take immediate steps to make this junction safer. I welcomed the commitment he made two weeks ago, but he is now a week late with no sign of taking any action.

He seems more concerned with media management than getting this problem sorted out. I have written to him seeking detailed information on safety at the junction nearly a month ago but he hasn’t bothered to respond. He needs to take the concerns of local people and cyclists’ seriously.”
