Capital Age Festival

There’s no better time to act your age!

Capital Age is London’s largest and liveliest cultural festival created by older people, and it's free for all. The 2008 Capital Age Festival will take place on Friday 11 July at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, London SE1. It is:

  • A high profile opportunity to celebrate the contribution of older Londoners
  • A visible demonstration of the importance of active participation by older people, as performers, audience members and volunteers
  • A varied programme of music, song, dance, street theatre and workshops featuring older performers representing London's diverse communities.

Capital Age Festival 2007

The Capital Age Festival 2007 took place on Sunday 19 August at Bernie Spain Gardens, next to Oxo Tower Wharf, South Bank, London SE1.

The festival has really exploded into life since its conception and the number of visitors has grown steadily. There were 900 attendees in 2003 and 20,000 people turned up in 2007 to join in the fun, despite the unpredictable weather. The participatory arts are now considered to be a crucial aid to active ageing, health and quality of life. In 2007 CAF extended its work to encourage local initiatives, identify and include some of the most hidden and marginalised groups, and commission and showcase innovative creative arts projects that cross boundaries.

Exercising at Capital Age FestivalCelebration, access and participation were at the heart of CAF 2007. The rain stopped and the sunshine was provided by over 250 older performers from all four corners of the capital. The palette was varied. There were four stages and performance areas offering a jam-packed programme of dance, theatre and music. The star studded line up included groups such as: the Recycled Teenagers; Moving into Age Dancers; 3rd Thought; Green Candle Senior Dancers; The Sunshine Grannies; Harrow Asian Dancers; Ragroof Theatre; Totlyn Jackson; Los Anos Dorados and many more.
