Health Inequalities Strategy

Living Well in London: The Mayor’s draft Health Inequalities Strategy was published for consultation with the London Assembly and the GLA functional bodies on 30 January 2008. The strategy sets out the Mayor’s framework to reduce health inequalities in the capital. Key aims of the strategy include encouraging physical activity, supporting long-term investment to reduce poverty, improving access to primary care and NHS services, supporting individuals to make healthier choices and promoting well being in the workplace.

The Mayor will use responses to this phase of consultation to further develop the strategy’s proposals for action. A public consultation draft will be published in summer 2009.

This draft strategy is the result of significant work to identify the evidence and to consult with key stakeholders and communities. Health Inequalities: Issues for London and Priorities for Action was published in August 2007 and set out the Mayor’s initial thinking on health inequalities. It was published alongside more detailed reports mapping evidence and existing policies that impact on health inequalities. Further information on these reports can be found on the Health Inequalities Strategy - Supporting evidence and reports page.
